Recurrent Energy looking to build solar power plant in Presidio County

Posted on Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 at 7:34 pm.

Four solar power companies, which include Alpine 1, SunEdison, Recurrent Energy, and SunPower, are looking to install their solar power plants in Presidio County, Texas.

According to Presidio County Judge Paul Hunt, Recurrent Energy expressed its interest in erecting an 80-megawatt solar energy facility north of the county during the Presidio County Commissioners’ Court meeting last Monday, November 11.

Commissioners were slightly concerned when Recurrent said it wanted to build the facility near the Presidio Lely International Airport, with Commissioner Lorenzo Hernandez saying that the Presidio Municipal Development District has plans of purchasing the property around the airport for property expansion.

Hunt said it is uncertain whether the solar power plant project would be able to meet the county’s economic development program policy, which would lower the tax rates for the company and in effect stimulate economic prosperity by encouraging business investment.

Hunt said a fifth company has also expressed its intent to set up business in Presidio County but declined to disclose further details of the deal.
