The latest budget projections in Texas have shown that the state is facing a potential budget gap of nearly $27 billion.
There are not many places for the government to make this up, so this means the Texas Legislature will have to make decisions on where to cut back.
They are currently deciding on the issue of laying off thousands of teachers because they will not be able to pay them, the closure of community colleges and a reduction in state services for those who struggle with mental health or who are poor. Some state officials have discussed how this is going to be a tough time for them because decisions will need to be made that affect many families.
