A new retirement plan has been approved by the Abilene School District on Monday. The new plan is an alternate retirement plan for people that do not fit the requirements for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
The new plan will begin Jan. 1 and states that substitute teachers, part-time teachers and temporary, seasonal staff members can now receive benefits. The First Financial Administrators will be managing the plan.
The associate superintendent proposed the plan to the district because there are about 1,200 employees in the district that cannot participate in the TRS program.
